About The Artwork

Original Mimeograph Printmaking STACKING BURIED POTTERY PIECES Artist: Tomoko Kanzaki Title: Buried pottery pieces Medium: Mimeograph Printmaking Paper measures: 640×485mm Signature: pencil signature in the right lower margin Edition number: 1/5 in the lower left margin Paper: Awagami (JapanesePaper) - Sold Unframed and Unmatted - This is an ORIGINAL PRINT, not a reproduction. All limited edition Mimeograph/stencil is produced individually on my own hand press. Each printing produces a slightly different image, so all the prints are in effect originals. STORY At that time, I was interested in sea glass and chipped pottery. In Japan, there is a technique called kintsugi, which is a technique to make a succession of chipped pottery, and it is sometimes used in daily life or as an art form. I was also interested in this technique of "kintsugi" because I make pictures by composing motifs like a collage. I was also interested in the idea of "succession," since my work is a collage-like composition of motifs, and the chipped ceramics used as parts were certainly an attractive material. In the painting, the ceramic pieces are placed under a large guardian stone. This work was done before I started this series in earnest. It was before I started this series, so I used the Sekimori stone, which means division. However, the Sekimori stone does not only mean division, but it also has the meaning of "connecting" different spaces. THANKS FOR SEEING MY WORK!

There is an article about me on "People of Print". Please Search to "Tomoko Kanzaki" in the site. ----------------------- Bone-in Osaka Japan, I’m a printmaking artist based in Tokyo Japan. I studied Fine Arts at Kyoto Seika University and graduated with specialization of Printmaking in 2006. I participate several in group exhibitions and I have solo exhibitions, in Tokyo Japan in 2019. My prints are mainly abstractly collaging that from such as landscapes or shapes from Garden(Japanese Garden) with some representational references. So, I’m reconstructing and making the Garden by printmaking. --------------------------------------------------- I use mimeograph to make plates. The technology originated from Edison Mimeograph, Japanese who brought it made a unique improvement, and completed "mimeograph printing" which makes plate making with "waxed Japanese paper" and "iron file". It's been 100 years since then that printing technique has been in use for a long time, but it was a very attractive printing technique. It was a simple mechanism and it was found that various expressions are possible. I began studying the technology by self-taught. My work on Saatchi art has such a history.
