This is a special hand printed woodcut in dark Phthalo blue on Hahnemühle paper 240g/m2, numbered and signed as EA (artist edition) in the total edition of 5. The quality of the print is excellent, showing all the small details of the lines and developing its special "charm" due to the traces of the printing process. And beautifully appears the depth of the dark phthalo blue color, changing its light and density of the ink by coming closer or walking aside. This is a unique print with artist quality oil-based inks, which have a extremly high pigmentation and therefore a guaranteed color longevity. The work is signed and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. CORDOAMA is a large-scale monochromatic woodcut that depicts a roaring wave towering towards the observer, capturing a fleeting moment at sea when waves break in endless repetition onto the shore, blurring the boundary between land, sea, and sky. The title refers to a location on the west coast of Europe, in southern Portugal, where the artist resided nearby and where the original photograph was taken: Praia do Cordoama. Facing this massive wave, other questions of current transformations may arise as well: water scarcity around the globe; global warming, and the importance of ocean water for all forms of life. The fading and disappearance of landscapes and untouched nature due to humanity’s irrepressible spirit of discovery and need for measurement can be recognized here, in the blurring that ap- pears as a form of absence or emptiness throughout the perception of the artwork. The closer we get to the work, the seascape will dissolve into an abstract grid.

Stefan Osnowski is a German visual artist using one of the oldest reproduction processes to create an extremely filigree, digitally appearing, ultra-modern aesthetic. He exclusively uses the centuries-old technique of woodblock printing. Osnowski is investigating digital codes to transform it into analog ones to represent phenomenas such as time, movement and spaces in a two dimensional image frame. The transformation of the original image into an abstract binary bar code - 1 or 0 – carved into the wooden panel and printed by hand; gathering a theme or selecting a medium is just as much a part of the concept as physical contact and hand-crafting. He is living and working in Lisbon (Portugal).
