ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Hand Painted photopolymer etching. Emerson has constructed Maquette’s theatre set made using beads, shells, buttons, natural materials, images, all repurposed from her collections, as a self professed magpie and hoarder. These sets are then photographed in the artists studio these are then digitally combined with the model and horse also was also photographed by the artist. The photopolymer etching process unify's the image leaving the boundaries blurred between the real and the fabricated, the characters cast adrift in these constructed spaces. This artist produces her prints in small editions, the etching plate is 'inked up' individually before going through the press, once printed and left to dry each edition has been hand painted with water colour and bronze powder making these unique and intriguing prints both collectable and a real talking point.

Rosie Emerson is an award winning contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. She was born in Dorset in1981, She completed her BA in Fine Art from Kingston University in 2004. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetype’s old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, becoming an allegory of her own fantasy. Exploring the interplay between painting, collage, printmaking and photography, Emerson begins by taking portraits in her studio, often making props and costumes to accompany her models. Screen-prints are then created, often hand painted and delicately embellished with bronze powders and gold leaf and using unusual materials including charcoal powder, ash and saw dust. These textural prints shift the focus of printmaking from precision and replication, to the creation of unique, hand-finished prints. Career highlights include being Artist in residence at Somerset House, Exhibitions at the RWA, Bristol and the Southbank Centre. A Finalist for the Young Masters Prize and shortlisted for the Rise Art Print Award, Emerson was also commissioned by Hackney WickED Arts Festival to create a new Guinness World record and create the world’s largest Cyanotype photograph. Her work is widely collected and exhibited both in the UK, as well as internationally, through galleries, art fairs and museums. She has also been commissioned by brands and individuals including Sony, Triumph Underwear, Redbull, P&O Cruises, Toms, and Annoushka jewelry .Her work has also been featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Another Magazine, The Financial Times Magazine and The Sunday Times Style Magazine.
