About The Artwork

David and The Dying Slave, V&A Museum, Cast Court. 1870's plaster cast replicas of Michelangelo's sculptures from the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Gold Toned Kallitype Print - 22 x 25 inch paper with the image area of 12 x 17 inch. Kallitype is a 19th Century Early Historic Alternative Photographic Printing Process in which photo-sensitive emulsion is hand-coated directly onto a cotton rag paper. It is a process closely related to platinum/ palladium and is considered one of the most stable photographic processes. Every print in the edition is unique due to the hand-coating of a photo-sensitive emulsion on paper. When toned with gold, platinum or palladium, the silver from which the image is initially created is replaced by gold or platinum/ palladium and is embedded in the paper fibres, thus becoming resistant to fading. As a result, the image will last as long as the paper on which it is printed. Printed on the highest quality cotton rag paper - Hahnemuhle Platinum Rag and deacidified after processing for archival museum quality.
