About The Artwork

Silkscreen prints of a limited edition inspired by an original artwork by surrealist artists from 1929, in which we can see 16 surrealist artists with their eyes closed "looking or not looking" at a naked woman (an original painting by René Magritte). This work of René Magritte is a "collage" of the portraits of 16 surrealist artists taken in a photo booth. This photographic process is easily accessible to everyone and it is a spontaneous kind of photography process which resembles the goals of the automatic writing process, which was so important to the surrealist artists. It was the result of a collaborative work between a surrealist painter René Magritte and other artists. It represents what the surrealist artists were supposedly seeing when they would close their eyes. In some ways it advocates for the need of an inner vison. The ambiguity comes from this unique vision of a woman they would have. In some ways, this is my personal rendition of this original collaborative surrealist artwork, but now a woman is in the center looking at a wolf hidden through various levels of tapestry. She is now in the center of the artwork surrounded by a wandering “predator” half human and half beast. One picture used here, is from a collaborative photoshoot (the little wolf). The picture of a woman with large glasses is derived from an original picture or photo from an artist named Line Gamache. I had her authorization to use it for this silkscreen variation. These silkscreen prints of mine are hand printed copies, with a mix of oil-based inks and water-based inks on a good quality of paper.
