About The Artwork

Described by a friend as "radiating hot sunshine and Vitamin C" these colours have a subtle glow with pale neon pockets of orange peeking out of a satin apricot surface, the blue network of lines hovering over in stark contrast. New screen print edition in 2017 based on a series of recent, multiverse inspired drawings from the series "Postcards from a Parallel Universe". Taking the concept of a "quilted multiverse" and visually reducing the idea to a warped grid where each cell is similar but slightly different. Similarities can be drawn with macro- and micro- structures. Printed by me at Bainbridge Studios in London, each layer of the print is created by hand using ink washes and pen on transparent film. I want my screen print editions to have a direct relationship to my original drawings and therefore favour analogue processes to retain the quality of the drawn line. 10 of these exist and are all signed and numbered on beautiful Somerset Satin 300gsm paper with a deckled and torn edge. I usually frame these with a float mount so you can see the edge of the paper.

Natalie Ryde (b.1981) is an East London based artist specialising in drawing, screen printing and participatory education projects. Her abstract, line drawings appear as floating woven forms, an aesthetic she attributes to her family lineage in both textiles and technical drawing. Ryde’s practice deals with ideas surrounding the human tendency to follow patterns, inherent and learnt behaviour, conscious and automatic decision making. Her source material is drawn from mathematical diagrams, observation of disrupted surfaces or patterns and emergent organic forms. The intricate mesh drawings in monochrome and colour have a feeling of movement and vitality in their undulating surfaces. Working predominantly on paper, Ryde uses ink, pen, pencil in her drawings as well as producing short-run and variable silkscreen print editions. Studio 301, Bridget Riley Studios, 43 - 45 Dace Road, Hackney Wick, E3 2NG. Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2005 Natalie has undertaken a series of residencies and commissions in Scotland and London including her 2011 Artist in Residence post at Kensington Palace and 2012 commission at Kew Palace.
