About The Artwork

The subjective view of the present day is the main theme of Jelena Bursac's "Wrong direction" work cycle. The works depict the contrast of something natural, calm, temperate and for the most part uses mostly grass, moss and earth motifs; and something artificial, for which it uses symbolism and segments of the motherboard. The motive that prevails in the work is moss, fresh, green, purifying. Because it takes a long time to grow and cover a surface, moss is also a symbol of permanence, time, and therefore wisdom and calm. The works are dominated by green, the color between heaven and earth, between the eternal and the perishable. In all the traditions of the world, it is a symbol of life, hope and joy, but also of change, transience and perishability. The phrase 'return to the green' expresses the need for occasional return to the natural environment, in which nature is synonymous with the mother. Earth, one of the basic elements of the universe. The symbolism of the earth is motherly action - everything is born of it. The characteristics of personification of the earth are recorded in the folk beliefs by which she acts as a living being: she sleeps, hurts, gets pregnant, gives birth, cries, gets angry at people for their sins. The feminine symbolism of the country, universal to all Slavic traditions, is revealed through the metaphor of motherhood and fertility. Belarussians believed that the earth, receiving the seed into itself, became pregnant and gave a new birth, that it was a universal Mother and foster mother: feed the living, and take the dead. It also represents the boundary between the human world and the underworld. Earth is an internal, driving force, one of the most perfect mechanisms that makes life possible on a daily basis. A change of residence from the village where the author grew up and where her view extended into fields, land, trees; into the city, which is accelerated, artificial and alienated, her world view changes as well, where she sees the difference between village life and life in the city, resulting in landscapes with natural elements, imbued with a technological era, which brings people together, and same time separates them. The dialogue between man and nature has been destroyed and man should return to himself and re-communicate with nature. Through structural compositions, constructed through the interrelationships of organic and geometric, he explores his inner feelings as well as what constitutes the spirit of today.
