About The Artwork
Linocut Print of Sunflowers This is a linocut print is taken from a drawing I created of Sunflowers at different stages of growth. Printmaking and linocut printing is one of my favourite mediums to work with. I'm inspired by working with line, texture, and tone and the slow methodical way of hand carving the block prior to printing. The printing of the lino block is another art in itself, each print is unique and has a certain character. Some of my main influences include the Australian printmakers: Margret Preston and Barbara Hanrahan and the Japanese printmaker: Un'ichi Hiratsuka and the Sōsaku-Hanga woodblock print movement ("creative prints") from the 20thC. Paper: Cotton Rag Paper 250 gsm These prints are hand-carved and printed, so there will be slight variations with each print. Oils based ink. My work is about simplifying and interpreting various forms, most notably the natural environment. The painted works, with an emphasis on colour, pattern, and light, explore the concept of a fusion of representation and abstraction. I'm fascinated by the effects of colour on our emotions and internal states. Making art has a therapeutic component that is equally as important as viewing art. My primary influences for the linocuts include Australian printmakers Margret Preston and Barbara Hanrahan, as well as Japanese printmakers Un'ichi Hiratsuka and the Ssaku-Hanga woodblock print movement ("creative prints") from the twentieth century. My painting is inspired by Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, Arthur Boyd, and Mid-Century designers and illustrators. Among the artworks for sale are lino cut prints, woodcut prints, and Giclée fine art digital prints. All linocut prints are hand-printed without the use of a press. Each print in the edition is distinct and one-of-a-kind.
