About The Artwork

This limited-edition print of 300 was professionally created from Pakan's 2012 original oil on canvas painting. Pakan signs and numbers each print and beautifully crafted accompanying certificate of authenticity. The master image is retained by the artist and may be used in future reproductions, but never again in a signed limited-edition series of this size. Print Size: 24 x 18 Reproduction Type: Photographic Image Stock: 100# McCoy Silk Cover, White Inks: Digital 4cp / 0 Year Released: 2018 Authorized Proofs: 1 Inspired by his attendance of the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Boulder, Colorado, Pakan created this impressionistic portrait of President Obama, capturing a pose that conveys the President’s thoughtful nature and strong character. The intermixing of the vibrant colors of the President’s hair symbolize the diversity and hope that was paramount to the President’s legacy. Several of Pakan's works have hung in the White House, including "Chicago Skyline", which Pakan had the honor of presenting to the President in 2009.

Cambodian-born artist Pakan Penn began painting at an early age. At 19, Pakan left Cambodia to enter the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. Unable to afford the program or return to his home due to the warn-torn conditions from the Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia, Pakan surrendered his studies and took a job with a construction crew in the Metro D.C. area. After becoming an American citizen and successfully running a home improvement business for 25 years, Pakan has returned to his true passion: painting. His experimentation with an array of colors and use of palette knife and brush, cultivate a sense of emotion in his paintings, shaped by his unique life story and extensive travels.
