About The Artwork

I was recently asked to create an exhibition of prints and originals for a stately home in Cumbria UK - Levens Hall. I used the house and it’s setting as a platform for designing a set of stylised birds and animals this image is one of them.

I think Hares are the most beautiful animals, dignified and mystical. They seem eternally wise and handsome. Like most of the animals I’m attracted to their colouring makes them look like living silk screen prints.

I love the look of silk screen prints the flat colours particularly. I found I could emulate this look in this series of original signed Giclée prints - original as no original actually exists other than these prints.

This image has been published in two editions - 95 in each.
One edition to fit a frame of 230mm x 230mm frame the other available here is to fit a frame of 330mm x 330mm.

Rowan studied illustration at the Cambridge Art School where he was taught by the painter and printmaker Walter Hoyle, a student and collaborator of Edward Bawden. Cambridge Art School was also where Ronald Searle studied, and Paul Hogarth was a lecturer, so the ethos of drawing and printmaking as a basic requirement for good illustration was already firmly established before Rowan studied there. His work can be found in private collections in the USA and UK and seen in many galleries in the UK. He has had work exhibited in The Master Eagle Gallery in New York and The Louvre in Paris. See his website for more details. Immediately after leaving Art School, Rowan set up his own freelancing career which he has pursued ever since with clients worldwide. He works in many different fields, from children's book publishing, animation, newspapers and magazines and produces artwork for diverse businesses, even restaurants. He has worked extensively in advertising, his artwork representing many major brands including Moet & Chandon, Sony, Mercedes-Benz and the Bank of Rome. He illustrated the Arts page of Punch for several years and his images can be seen on covers of the New York Times and other magazines. His popular gift book series, Too Soon for a Mid-Life Crisis, has sold close to one million copies worldwide. Rowan's work has been exhibited in various one-man shows around the country. He was recently Artist-in-Residence at the historic Levens Hall in Cumbria, where his work was exhibited and is currently on sale. Rowan is also frequently engaged in commissions to draw and paint private residences.
