About The Artwork

Viewing and contemplating the imaginary night sky and it's mysteries. Created to evoke a sense of night time peacefulness My work is hinged on the urban, rural and coastal landscapes that I have called home and the ways in which these environments can be transcended, viewed and understood. My abstract art combines elements from the built environment and the natural world. The result is the representation of virtual places that evolve while the works are created. This is one of a series of six. Created with the base of a one-of-a-kind encaustic monotype, mounted on an aluminum panel and enhanced with encaustic paint, encaustic medium and oil. It is mounted on a 12"x12"x1.5" wooden panel which allows the aluminum panel to float 1.5" from the wall once hung.

Kelly Austin Rolo is a contemporary painter and printmaker whose primary focus is working in encaustic and mixed media. Originally from Lewes, Delaware, she received her B.F.A. from Syracuse University and started her career as a corporate designer in NYC working with top architectural firms. After living and working in New York City for 15 years, she moved two hours north of the Big Apple to the rural countryside. A recent transplant to Denver, Colorado, her work explores the natural world and man-made landscapes and cityscapes. Kelly's cyclical process of creation to destruction, back to creation, allows her to play with colors and materials, working their shapes over time, resulting in organic and harmonious forms. Her work appears in collections throughout the US.
