This is Nº11 of my first series on the subject: I am in awe in front of the ferocious force of nature, and volcanic eruptions are part of it. I hope to convey that force, paradoxically via a very delicate work on extremely thin Japanese paper which I then painstakingly inlaid with a press on thick watercolor paper (loosing quite a few of my monotypes in the process so thin was the Japanese paper!)... I chose tar to "paint", as it seems relevant to me to relate to chthonian elements, and it provided surprises, such as sometimes turning blue! An immersion into the small monotype sends one into that maelstrom of an eruption, revealing the contrast between relatively fine, small and quiet human life, and the monstrous enormity of natural forces at work. P.S. Each of this 10 piece-series of monotypes is presented, for showing, on brown paper board that can be replaced or discarded.

France
As an architect in France, I had the sensation of working only with my brain. Well-rooted traditions and endless rules were distorting my most intimate convictions. When I came to Guatemala in 1985 I had a revelation, thanks to the Indigenous people: for them, art is not a commodity, it still illuminates their everyday life. So, I also could start creating, with my agile hands, the movements of my anxious body, the words that come to me at night, or whatever material on hand. And I could tell it all: my thirst for the delicate, in our so brutal world — delicate gestures and thoughts are the seal of a civilized mind —, tell the importance of celebrating love, my rage in front of the way we treat our planet and all living things, and also my joy when just causes prevail. I’ve been creating art since, experimenting in techniques and media, learning through books, exhibits, and with artistic communities. In over 30 years of creation I have gone between very elaborate projects to more minimalist endeavors, all with a definite committed posture, but in my bi-dimensional production I indulge in more abstract, almost thoughtless practice, letting go of my hand on papers of all kinds.
