Viaduct Print

Recently, I have been investigating the theme of 'In Between Places' in my work. I have been thinking about ideas of liminality in relation to physical spaces as well as stages in life. The bridge represents a universal symbol of connection. This particular bridge is a railway viaduct originally built in the Victorian times but which has long since ceased to transport trains. It now forms part of a public footpath, on which can still be spotted here and there traces of wooden railway track. What once connected people by train across towns in the country now connects two villages across the river. This image subtly alludes to Scotland's industrial heritage; the viaduct was built as one of many during the Victorian age to connect communities and assist with trade across the country. It therefore takes on a universal importance beyond the specific place it is rooted in.
