Hannah Nickolls Hannah Nickolls is a pasionate painter, print maker and book maker. she is an artist that loves life and expresses her heart and soul through the making of her work. "Art is my life, my paintings are like the pages in a book, every brush stroke, pigment and texture tells a story, without the pages my soul would be a blank canvas and I would not exist" Hannah Nickolls grew up around the kentish coast line. She started painting at primary school and at the age of 13 she sold her first painting. At the age of 16 in her final year of college, Hannah had a accident in which she fractured her spine. After having extensive surgery and suffering several years of complications, it was art that saved her life. Since then her work has grown, undergoing various stages of experimentation. Hannah Nickolls vibrant and dramatically subliminal work is often drawn from the war in her own life and the battles we have to face in everyday life, past and present. Inspired by music, poetry and literature, themes often explore humanity, nature and the memories of history in the modern world today. Romanticism, and Abstract expressionism play an important role in the development of her creations. After several years out, Hannah Nickolls is now a full time artist. Her atmospheric paintings and prints are collected throughout England, Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Wight and are now atracting international interest by collectors in Germany, America and Australia. "I am an artist that enjoys various disciplines but have come to realise painting is my true calling in life. It saved my life. Art is more than a gift; it is the skin that covers my body, the excitement in my stomache, the aching in my heart and the story of my soul. I am arts lover and the war makes me blind! All I can see are the stories of life and all I can feel is deepest strongest feeling that this is what I must do!" "I have read many books about people that go through hell and back and yet fight for survival when faced with nothing but death and despair. Their stories of humanity and nature give me the determination to survive and fight for my dreams. I always remind myself no matter what life throws at me it is precious so make it count." "The old masters were the foundations of my beginnings. I have learnt so much from Pablo Picasso and his "Guernica", Salvador Dali, J. H Waterhouse, John Martin, J.W.
