About The Artwork
This piece is hand cut from 350gsm cold pressed watercolour paper then laid over light pink pig skin. The kuia in the portrait is named Lovey. Her moko kauae was done when she was in her 60's. I photographed her for this image in her home in Blenheim, New Zealand in 2017 as part of my exploration into traditional Maori tattooing and it's place in modern day society. This piece was shown in a solo exhibition in London at BSMT Space gallery. The show was titled 'Te Reo O Ta Moko - The Language of Ta Moko'.
