About The Artwork

The Serpentine Gallery presented an exhibition, purporting to represent British Sculpture. I submitted a stone-carving of two monumental bottles. It was declined. At the end of the exhibition a prestigious commission was announced and six celebrated sculptors were invited to apply. The winner presented two bottles, to be cast in concrete. My two bottles were wine bottles, his were plastic bottles. So, I did this carving of an Ajax (detergent) bottle and a bottle of Minervois wine. Ajax (the lesser) was an anti-hero, Minerva the goddess of the arts. The carving is in Greek marble
