About The Artwork
Aluminum Two is the inverse of Aluminum One, a flat curve on the exterior, a sphere inside, identical dimensions. Aluminum Two is the second of a series of wound wire pieces. It consists of 1,050 linear feet of wire wrapped continuously around an aluminum, laser-cut armature. It weighs 9.25 pounds and sits on a clear acrylic base. It can be easily hand-held or hung and allowed to spin freely. It is part of an on-going study of pure form, and there will be a minimum production of ten pieces each. Aluminum Three will have an elliptical section, rotated around a center, spherical outside and spherical inside, identical dimensions. Now, it is my primary vocation. For me, the design process in both architecture and sculpture is identical. I consider my buildings to be light-sensitive sculpture and my sculpture, scaleless architecture. I grew up in the art world. My mother, a painter and a writer, was for many years the Director of the Pittsburgh Plan for Art, then the city's only legitimate gallery. Our friends were painters, sculptors, writers and architects. My forays into art and architecture were a natural progression.
