About The Artwork

As far back as the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans the amphora was the container of Mediterranean trade. It carried, conserved and protected not only oil and wine; it was also how knowledge, "savior faire" moved from one culture to another. New ideas criss-crossed oceans and broke down walls, they provoked dialogue, exchange and influenced people. The artist is not so much interested in the external form, but far more in what is going on inside the amphoras. The archaic materials driftwood, hemp ropes, iron and clay thus form a bridge to the traditions of the island of Mallorca and to the Mediterranean.
