Argus Sculpture

I was inspired by unusual birds - pheasants Argus. Their magnificent color delighted me! On the wings, males have very long secondary feathers with a pattern in the form of large eyes, the head is blue, on the crown there is a crown of black feathers. Birds live in the jungle of Borneo, Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. I decided to depict this bird with a thin relief on a vase, showing its bright feathers and regal appearance. When I was working with the vase, I did not use a potter's wheel to make the form more lively. I used the technique of making harnesses. I use light burning clay and make using hand-sculpting techniques to make a relief. The work is then fired in an electric kiln twice, the second time at a temperature of about 1080c. The work is decorated with an underglaze painting. There are small cracks on the surface of the work, which are called the “tzek” - this is not a defect, but an artistic technique that allows you to make a smooth glaze as if covered with a small ornament. To highlight this ornament, a special pigment is rubbed into the cracks. Clay works are lovely to hold – they have a great “feel” about them. This work is hand-built and totally unique. The work is suitable for interior locations. You can pour water into a vase and put flowers in it, if you like; it is waterproof. Work will be sent in a wooden box, carefully packed.
