In the Candomble pantheon of Spirit Dieties, Yewa is the associatation to the Yoruba Deity Oya who governs the winds and the Niger River. Masquerades are tributes to the energy of the deities and ancestors and are used to channel that energy in rituals and ceremonies. As in this doll creation, colors represented by the deities are used in ceremony and rituals. Yewa/Oya wears deep pink, red and burgundy in Candomble tradition.
