Silvio Vigliaturo was born in Acri, a town located in the Southern Italian Region of Calabria, in 1949. When he was still very young he moved to Chieri, a town near Turin, where he currently lives and works. Artist and glass maestro, his technique has always been characterized by a strong emphasis on research and experimentation. Since his first exhibitions, in 1977, up to the most recent participation to the Italian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale, held in 2011, and the important solo exhibition at the Regional Museum of Natural Science, in Turin (Summer 2012), Vigliaturo's artistic journey has been marked by constant evolution. His unique approach to glass derives from his tireless painting activity. The strong visual impact of his sculptures originates from the transparence of the colors and the antinomy between the glass's weight and the lightness of forms the artist is able to generate from it. In 2006, Vigliaturo was nominated artistic testimonial of the XX Winter Olympic Games held in Turin. In the same year, the municipality of Acri dedicated him a museum - the MACA (Contemporary Art Museum of Acri) - which hosts a large permanent collection of his works. In 2010, he was named artistic testimonial of Calabria at Expo Shanghai. In the beginning of 2013, he participated at the Contemporary Glass Sculpture exhibition, held at the Orlando Museum of Art, which gathered works by the most important glass artists in world, celebrating the first fifty years of Studio Glass. www.silviovigliaturo.it www.facebook.com/MACA.Silvio.Vigliaturo
