About The Artwork
This piece is part of the development of Bird Alphabet 3 [column] a mature realisation of the glyphic sculptures commenced in 2017. BA1 debuted at the Waveney sculpture trail at Raveningham, since then, the invention of the Bird Alphabet [a proposed written language for birds] has evolved into a body of work, both poetic and abstract, with many bronze maquettes and paintings. Most notably, the Bird Alphabet figure, ‘Guardian,’ is a commissioned bronze that is larger than life and cast by the artist for a private collection. The proposed piece will work with the landscape from a bird’s perspective, lifting the eye and piercing the sky, totem pole-like, intriguing and exultant. The piece is a bronze structure atop a stainless steel pole. It is a series of Bird glyphs alined in columnar form on two connected vertical axes, rising from eye level. The work resets the horizon point as if to be appreciated from a higher perspective, and works within the landscape, crossing the horizon line from sky to earth.

Jim Racine MA[RCA] British sculptor and painter. I make all my own bronze with my own hands, from beginning to end, from wax to patina. This is important to me as an artist because, as in life, the journey is as relevant as the arrival. The Monumenty and Bird Alphabet series are about an attempt on the sublime in sculpture, which is normally the preserve of painting. I am placing the human artefact in nature, within the landscape where it can command the pictorial, bring sky to earth and earth to sky, seeking an ideal reflection for civilised aspirations and the extraordinary. Monumenties like Angelic and Caryatid are monuments to an unstated future happening, eroded from a journey back through time to the present, and very likely to survive the species that made them. The Bird Alphabet is an attempt to create a sculptural written language for birds, to create a meta-language and so rewrite the basis for sculptural expression and create entirely new and poetic art. I specialise in teaching bronze casting in studio and also take on private commissions, bronzecasting, fabrication and restoration projects, to exhibition and public art standard..
