Blue and White Porcelain Bowl size:large Sculpture

This piece is a handmade porcelain bowl made in the traditional way of painting ceramics. It was created using a technique, which involves painting with cobalt blue and white paints. After molding and firing, patterns are drawn on a white ground with cobalt pigment called "gosu", and then transparent glaze is applied over the pattern and fired. It is a technique that requires a lot of skill because it requires drawing directly on unglazed pottery and cannot be repainted. The motifs are peonies and pine, bamboo, and plum trees, all of which are considered auspicious in Asia. I hope you will enjoy the blue color as much as I enjoy painting and firing it.
