About The Artwork
This is a strong little lady. You don't mess around with her and she already seems mildly annoyed with the whole situation. I have made a few "brick" ladies. They are made out of beautiful thick Dutch sea clay which I found in the area that I live in. The clay is dark and gray and sticky when it comes out of the earth - and miraculously turnes into this lovely brick when fired. The same colour as all medieval buildings in Amsterdam.

I mostly make little women Ik maak vrouwtjes Mostly out of clay, but I love casting them in bronze or sculpting out of stone. I suppose my little women are me, but they turn out exactly the way they want. Shy, bored, seriously pissed off, it is surprising to me how expressive they are. My inspiration come from the great sculpture such as Marino Marini and Charlotte van Palandt.
