Cardinal in Winter Sculpture

I have lived on various properties with acreage for most of my adult life. Being surrounded by nature has been an inspiration to me as I expand my artistic skills. Flowers, trees, insects, birds, deer, turkeys, racoons… the list goes on. I love including these subjects in my art, especially when working with glass powder. This piece consists of two layers of 8” x 8” transparent glass onto which I sifted several layers of powders. I continued to create layer after layer of powder on each sheet, firing between each application, until I achieved the look I wanted. Then I full fused the two layers together. Following the full fuse, I added more powder to give the piece extra texture and then attached a cast-glass cardinal onto a lower branch. This piece took a total of 10 kiln firings to complete. The art is attached to the glass of the picture frame and a white mat is under the frame glass. The frame is wired and ready for hanging.
