• Mickey Mouse with gas mask, sculpture of tar and polyurethane • Wire loop at the back of his head for hanging • Solid and dry to the touch. He will continue to harden as the tar cures My mother's doctor described her cancer as "it's as if someone poured tar over her insides". That impacted me. I now make art to visualize it Regarding this piece: In the early 1940s, chemical warfare became a concern for Americans. One month after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the US government decided to prepare its citizens for a possible chemical attack by distributing gas masks. The issue, though, was that they scared children In 1942, Walt Disney approved the creation of Mickey Mouse gas masks. The hope was that the mask would appear less frightening to children According to Major Robert D. Walk, "The mask was designed so children would carry it and wear it as part of a game. This would reduce the fear associated with wearing a gas mask and hopefully, improve their wear time and, hence, survivability"

I'm a software engineer by profession. My professional career has allowed a deep involvement in the realtime computer graphics industry; from high performance 3D graphics processors to video game development. Education is a passion and I enjoy working with kids. I run a non-profit initiative to teach primary-school aged children to make video games. I'm involved in other non-profits, namely the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture, and the Child Care Resource Center. I've always been involved in the visual side of creation. I create art as a personal satisfaction. But it's wonderful when someone else appreciates and sees value in your point of view.
