I was inspired by the sculptural centre-pieces of the Art -Deco period (1920s), but wanted to come up with something more contemporary and with a symbolic narrative attached. This is an original Sculptural Centre-piece which was thought out and developed intuitively. It deals with the theme "Choices". We as humans, are who we are today as a result of the choices we have made..the good and the bad! The Lion in this sculpture is symbolic of Christ, the One who is always there, whether we are aware of this or not! The man depicted in the sculpture, represents our human nature which wants to explore and discover...but there are always consequences for our actions, some pleasing and fulfilling, others dangerous and destructive. The 'man' is seen as leaning on "God" and yet is dipping his toes into uncertain waters....see the woman's head turned away...perhaps a forbidden or failed relationship, or rejection....and as you look further you will see a shark swimming up to the man's foot, teeth bared, ready for supper! Beware of where you dip your toes!!! However, despite our choices, Christ remains the same, and is waiting for us to become more dependant on Him. This is not meant to be read as a 'doom and gloom' scenario, but rather as a light hearted inspirational piece that speaks of hope, love, joy and healing and for those seeking to make more meaningful choices.
