About The Artwork

I made this piece the first semester of my senior year in high school, Fall 2016. Age 17. It was inspired by a dream I had of an Afro indigenous woman walking near a body of water with a basket on her head and a baby on her hip. I did not get the chance to make the baby, as we had assignments and deadlines to keep up with; but maybe one day I will make a whole series inspired by the dream and this piece. As far as what I would hope viewers take from this piece? I hope viewers will get the feel of the beauty of indigenous women and the appreciation for the eclectic yet simplistic magic. The richness of the skin, How just the skin can add so much artist layer to a photo or any other media of art. The texture of the hair, and all that it adds. Appreciate the richness of the culture in the way that we "Westerners" often take for granted. How in touched with the elements many nonwestern cultures are... Some would call how certain indigenous peoples live to be "noncivilized", but we are the ones living in excess, glutton, and out of touched with nature. Brings in the conversation of what is "civilized" really? What is beauty really? Why did I choose this medium, subject matter, style? I love texture. My favorite thing to do when it comes to sculpting is to mix texture and different materials. Being that I'm a texture girl, it was only right that I use like 5 different mediums for this piece. As far as the subject matter, during this stage in my life I was really into doing research on the overlap between "African American" culture and "Native" culture. How the presence of "Black people" in America has been long before slavery, and is being hidden. And the style? The style is abstractly inspired by Mayan and "Olmec" art. Thank you for checking out my Art, and I hope you enjoy as well as keep up with me!!! My thoughts on my own art are cool, but as an artist I really do not like to interpret my art. I much rather hear what others see in my art. Leave it up for interpretation of the viewers because then it is limitless. It will always be becoming new. Also, feel free to email me ladylache1k@gmail.com for more/better pictures.

Hi, my name is Lache (with an accent over the e, but I have not yet figured out how to do that with the keyboard), and I am a young writer and artist. A proper renaissance woman if you will... I am my instrument, and my instrument is me. It is a movement. For the rest of my days I am going to be constantly expanding my mind, diving deeper into self discovery/ my subconscious, improving always. travel, dance, song, language, THE ARTS, written works, I will rest my hands over all of it. Follow me on my journey. Remember my name.
