Colour compositions have been created from found furniture parts that have been deconstructed and painted with Pantone colours. This work was made during an intense period of making and developing work for an exhibition ‘Between things’ 2017. The work is intuitive in the selection of materials and use of colour with an emphasis on play and a conversation between the materials.

To create these compositions I deconstructed a lot of furniture into many different parts which were then grouped accordingly to the colour whilst they were being painted using Pantone colours. The whole process was exciting and very physical as the volume of materials created was immense. The painted parts were then assembled working from giant palettes of different coloured painted wood mixed up and set out in the space. Play and conversation is an important part of the work in how the compositions are put together as in conversations between two different people.
The best way to hang this compostion relief is through a hole in the relief where there is already a screw hole. Exact screw will be sent to match the others in the work. The actual weight of this is 3.17kg we have added extra for shipping. At times there are natural imperfections and wear marks on the wood and paint reflecting a passage of time, a history of the materials.

Clare Iles’ work is a gathering of materials, creating sculptures that balance the outside and inside through research and response, exploring the feeling of being an outsider. At one time more nomadic and outward looking, Clare has worked in extreme environments to challenge values and reflect on the true self. Often working from ‘real’ things; creating sculptures out of found furniture and bringing these objects together and apart again; drawn from exploring childhood memories of playing house with objects to hand, creating a place to be, her own expression and her own rules. The results are tactile, spontaneous and intuitive. Iles’ work is influenced by travel and research and has carried out extensive artist funded travel – Western India 2005 Arts Council East, Jerusalem 2010 Arts Council East, Artist Travels: Greece 1999, Australia 2000, Dominican Republic 2001, Western India 2006, Northern India 2007, Jerusalem 2009 / 2010. Clare Iles has exhibited her work across the UK and Europe from inclusion in an international group exhibition through to several artist residences, projects and solo shows. Clare has taught Fine Art on the BA Degree Course and Art & Design Diplomas at Colchester School of Art and led workshops and projects across all age groups within galleries, schools and housing associations.
