Utilizing natural colors found in living sea life, she constructed her version of a coral reef ecosystem. With the temperatures continuously rising, the impact is visible underwater. Coral bleaching is a byproduct of this phenomenon. The once-pigmented ecosystem that so many species depend upon is becoming lifelessly colorless. Using various pile heights, cuts and loops, and hues, Henthorne created an organic multichromatic tufted sea ecological community.

Abigail Henthorne is an artist who uses yarn to create fiber drawings. She utilizes various weaving and knot-tying techniques such as crochet, embroidery, latch hook, and tufting to generate diverse marks. She finds her subject matter from the natural world. Exploring nature’s individuality, Henthorne investigates the world’s most rare living creatures-endangered species. From the land to the sea, she finds beauty in the naturally agreeable color palettes that nature has bestowed upon these threatened animals and reimagines them with fiber.
