Work starts with experience and with references taken from a store of drawings and images. The first part of my practice is almost systematic: clay-making to collect structural elements. My forms are figurative, so I need feet, legs, arms, torsos and heads, but there is no clear direction at this early stage. Moving into the second part of the making is uncharted; I have no rules here. It is entirely uncontrolled. Sculptures are joined and fused, broken and recombined, which defers any specific outcome. Of course, breaking the work creates chaos, which can lead to failure, but new beginnings tend to open up with such loss, and I tend to actively turn away from what is deemed correct. Because assumptions are where attention starts to waver, I would not say I like to stay with what feels comfortable, and we can sometimes only become truly attentive when something needs to be fixed. In the latter part of my making, I move into the material stage, where I play with fabrics, rope, buttons, stones and other sourced or found materials. Again, I like taking risks and trying out things I have not done before.

United Kingdom
Kerry Jameson is a london based artist working in clay and other materials.
My clay creations are seemingly personal yet often draw upon found sources, such as images from books and postcards, as well as photographs I have taken myself. Works are inspired by the flow of things seen everyday, as well as by the art I look at, from the past.
With a passion for the European arts and its spiritual persuasions, I find ways to translate this source material into my own experience in the form of drawings, paintings and sculptures, which are crafted from red earthenware and found objects.
The works are freighted with strangeness and perhaps seem a world apart, drawing the viewer into a beguiling perceptual experience.
