Derma Soft Ellipse by Amandine Guruceaga Sculpture

Graduate of the Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Marseille in 2013, Amandine Guruceaga set up a public commission the same year, Mirador seaside on the Prado beach as part of Marseille Capital of European Culture. Her first solo show "Nana Benz" at Diagonales 61 revolves around this nickname given to Togolese women who have dominated the fashion and fabric trade in West Africa. This exhibition foreshadows her fascination with the migration of shapes and patterns, notably through colored waxes, which she alters, erases and reveals in these sculptures. In 2014, she spent three months in an exchange residency at Glasgow Sculpture Studios where she took up Scottish tartan and produced a set of sculptures shown during the solo show “Wupu Beach Bang” at the Pipe Factory, Glasgow. On her return, she co-founded TANK, in Marseille, an artist run space, a place of production and distribution where artists are invited. In 2016, she co-curated “Raoul Reynolds: a retrospective”, a double exhibition presented during the “Glasgow International Festival” and at the Friche la Belle de Mai. She recently presented her works at Quadrum, Lisbon; at the Villa Arson as part of Run, Run, Run, or again at Mains d'oeuvre in St Ouen. In 2017, she took part in the LVMH Métiers d'Art residency where she worked in close collaboration with the craftsmen of the Riba-Guixa tannery in Barcelona, ​​and developed through her sculptures innovative processes for coloring and transparency of leather.
