About The Artwork
Deshabille is a lady in repose.Through the use of preserved cottonwood, seed beads, plaster and paint, I create texture and movement. UGLY BEAUTIFUL describes my work, to contrast the ugliness of breast cancer with the beauty of the woman's body. I strive to emphasis the dichotomy of society's pressure for the perfect body with the distortion that is created by breast cancer. My background as a fashion designer and a breast cancer survivor compels me to make this statement.

Lynne Hanson’s subject matter is often very personal, and is frequently inspired by memories of growing up in the horse country of Maryland, her career as a clothing/textile designer and her struggles with breast cancer and body image. Her current works approach these themes using wood, fiber, wax, and vintage beads, resulting in forms that simultaneously suggest pixilation and nature.
