This sculpture is part of my project called "The Ceramics Theater". The shape of the sculpture is inspired by hand puppets from childrens theater. As all the other characters I've created in this project, it is meant to tell a story and represent a characteristic. The sculptures were created spontaneously without a sketch or plan before. What came to my surprise is they are very much related to my past experiences. In perticular this sculpture makes me think very much of my childhood favorite doll.
My wish is that every onlooker will find his own story in the characters I created.
The technique I use is hand building and ceramic lithography. The end effect of the portrait is created with transparent craquele glaze.

My work is mostly figurative with an inclination towards the abstract and expresses my own thoughts and fantasies. It represents my personal research into human behaviour. It’s a reflection on the way I see and understand it, a research related to body and mind. Although my sculptures are fictional in character, they always express a true story. I prefer a fantastical approach over a realistic one, just because I like to see where my imagination can go. I normally create my sculptures by handbuilding, mostly with slabs. I like to experiment with textures and pigments to give my work an organic feel and use glaze more for accents. I prefer to work with rough surfaces and irregular shapes. Combining the figurative with the abstract in my work alludes to a confusion between reality and illusion. My development as an artist is based on spontaneity, a lot of research and experiments with new techniques and materials. I search mainly to understand the techniques but then find a personal approach in applying them. For example, through practice and experimentation I have developed a unique aesthetic in my Raku and Ceramic Lithography work. This gives my work a solid expressivity, but also personality. I use my work to express myself, to communicate and bring awareness into certain subjects. I feel satisfied when my work is understood or interpretated in a way that awakens emotions for the viewer. I started creating at a young age and soon became very passionate and serious about it. It was my way to escape and my way to express myself. At the age of 14 I decided to start my studies in art education, and from the first year I chose my specialisation in ceramics. During my bachelor’s and master’s degree studies I undertook two internships, which helped me develop my knowledge in ceramics and experiment with new techniques. After my graduation I decided to spend time further developing my work. I am dedicated to the creation, presentation and promotion of my work with a focus on how to build and sustain my artistic career.
