"Double Combined Portrait of Charlotte and Beau as Montaigne's and Derrida's Cats" Print

This is a smaller than life-size "double portrait" of our two cats, who are a bit rotund. I have always admired statues of cats from ancient Egyptian tombs, so I've "fast-forwarded" the rigidity of the pose from the skinny old version. The sculpture is carved from Tennessee Limestone, which has natural streaks and speckles giving it an organic look--limestone is, after all, sedimented marine organisms. Besides Egyptian sculpture, the other influence is early 20th century Art Deco. I left certain planes, particularly on the head, rather sharp edged to emphasize the geometry. I also toyed with the symmetry typical of both styles (Egyptian and Art Deco) and left in a few asymmetrical quirks. The sculpture was carved entirely by me, mainly using hand tools (after some initial cutting with power tools). I carve outside, even in winter (which is relatively mild here). Please note that the dimensions of the sculpture itself are 11-3/4" (30 cm) tall by 7" (18 cm) deep by 6-1/2" (16.5cm) wide. The dimension for the listing include the base, which is made out of wood. The sculpture is bolted to the base but it could be removed, if desired. Intended for indoor use only. The limestone has two coats of paste wax to protect it.
