About The Artwork
This ornamental structural ceramic sculpture is inspired by the dynamic spikey form of the sea urchin, or Echinoidea, and might also be said to have a star like appearance, hence “Echinostar”. It is the last in a number of attempts to create extreme structures using paper clay and its success lead to the creation of a subsequent Echinostar Vessel. The gloss black opalescent glaze overlays a yellow orange underglaze that is revealed along the edges under closer inspection, giving a burning ember effect.
