Echoes III Sculpture

Being an architect allowed me to enrich, expand and strengthen my creative need by deeply sharpening my imaginative conception of space, thinking in three dimensions and mastering elements and principles of formal expression and composition. “Semané” is the way I pronounced “José Manuel” as a kid. It symbolizes a reconnection with my inner child. I tirelessly experiment and create links amongst endless techniques and materials in order to make art inexhaustible in its concepts and scopes. Art is a channel that awakens and reinforces humanity within each one of us. It’s an individual worldview devoid of any fear that strikes new paths, breaks rules, disobeys, questions and confronts the established. I attack my ideas directly without any sketches or preliminary essays. I finish every piece as fast as I can with the aim of capturing the emotional impetus. I am impatient in order not to lose the rawness of the momentum and to reflect that precise instant over the matter. The language of my sculptures is one of freedom and understanding of the matter. My hands are a guide and not an imposition over it. Each material has its own language. I seek that imperfection paves the way to expression, showing the matter itself as the one that comes to life and manifests. The essential value of my work is the clear metaphorization of feelings and concepts that are intangible. I use light as a cohesive element of the image that deprives my sculptures from their tridimensional quality to give them a scenographic theatricality. My philosophy as an artist will always be to gather all what is meaningful to the existence. To convene the senses, memory, imagination and emotions with the aim of showing our true nature and thereby generate positive changes in people.
