Elegant beast Sculpture

Elegant Beast is is part of a series entitled Psychedelic Creatures, which is a celebration of the hippy culture and psychedelic art of the 60's and 70's. This body of work includes mammals, birds, insects, and fish, some with an element of natural fantasy such as horses with two heads, birds with ears, a cheetah with wings and fish with legs. Imaginary animals that constitute a visión of future evolution.  It all started by the creation of one piece, the Green Dog. This artwork, born of my recent research and experimental process with dripping colored resin over wired woven shaped creatures, reminded me of a description of a peyote experience by Carlos Castaneda in his book "The Teachings of Don Juan" that became a cult novel in the late 60's from whence came the title of the exhibition. The acrylic colours mixed with cold resin are applied by using dripping of various layers one on top of the other (like Pollock) to form a pictoric structure that forms the skin of the creatures.  The final form is the result of chance controlled only by the viscosity of the material, the ambient temperature and gravity. Metaforically the works try to demonstrate the unlimited variations of evolution and the role that chance plays, drop by drop, in this ever changing and developing process.
