I was inspired to sculpt an elephant after watching a devastating documentary on how elephants where being slaughtered for their tusks. I really focused on capturing the intricate details that makes this creature one of the most majestic animals on the planet.

I started with an oil based clay, then once I was satisfied with the sculpt, I made a silicone mould. I made a resin cast, cleaned it up, and painted it with care so all the little details are picked up, right down to the gloss on the eye that adds life to the piece. The casting has been mounted to a painted and sealed wooden plaque and will come with a metal display easel.

I have signed the back of the display.

Hello! My name is Toby Larson and I’ve always been involved with art in some capacity all my life. It was 1992 and I was a junior in high school that was getting burnt out with all the typical art, drawing, painting, photography etc. One day, I asked my art teacher if there was something else. He told me he would think about it, and a few days later, he brought me a chunk of oil based clay and that was it! I took to sculpting like a duck takes to water and I’ve never gone back! I have learned to sculpt, create silicone molds of my work, cast them in resin and/or wax. Each piece that I create is unique in that the paints and finishes will be different and no two pieces are the same. I take great pride in the quality of my work to ensure that you are receiving something special. I do mostly resin work, but have recently started to create bronze work with a local foundry in Eugene, Oregon.
