Experiment in Counterbalance Sculpture

Alice Power makes Sculptures that often refer to the world of the stage. If the sculptures do not actually perform as in Machine No 1, it is as though they are just about to do something, always a feeling of expectation a story revealing itself. I am drawn to make objects that on first sight seem to have a purpose or use but on closer inspection it becomes clear that they are in fact useless. My interest is to be able to appeal both to popular taste and high culture and humour is central to that. The tragi comic nature of life, our ability to laugh at ourselves.
