'Gratitude' is an assemblage artwork from the series 'CuRIOSA-The Immortals Within' created in the year 2015. My inspiration to create this work was my grandfather. Since childhood, I have observed him making beautiful art with whatever he found around him. He taught me see mundane and regular objects of everyday life with a creative perspective. It took me years of research and understanding to know that this particular form of art was called Assemblage. Till then, to me, it was simply art. Years passed as I developed my own artistic sensibilities and started creating conceptual art with found objects. Copper and wood being my primary elements. But just arranging objects with good aesthetics wasn't enough. I needed more depth in my work. There had to be a thought, a feeling, an emotion that can hold the attention of the viewer. To begin with, me. We are all slaves of our own emotions. Every head is unique. Experiences make us who we are. The emotions inside us are immortal. One has to make peace with them constantly. To experience oneness. About the artwork: A prayer is an attitude of gratitude for what we already have. As an artist I'm forever grateful, and I realise this understanding gives me the ability to generate energy to sustain my creativity. The painted copper rings around the head, which is my portrait, represents the Torus (the self sustainable energy field around every living organism). I am highly inspired by the DADA movement. And i have studied works of artists like Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauschenberg, Picasso and many other contemporary assemblage artists from round d the world. One of my favourite is Kris Kuksi.
