About The Artwork
In the 70's the first Rigid Inflatable Boats were invented. They were popular because of the inflatable form. This radical boat design change was caused by the availability of a new reinforced kind of rubber, or hypanol. This new material gave designers a lot of new options but the end result often was pure functional. Traditional small wooden boats were made by hand and had a particular charm with them. This sculpture, which can actually sail, combines two worlds, two eras, and two functions in one.
