About The Artwork

Any bronze enlargement proposal will be examined with interest Artistic contribution in tribute to all those who act for the climate Christian Candelier sculpture «HOMO DESTRUCTOR: act now» "HOMO DESTRUCTOR; act now "is a patinated terracotta work created by the sculptor Christian Candelier This work was completed on April 12, 2019. The idea of this work is a reaction to the lack of efficiency of all those who govern us and many of us. We are all individually responsible and we must act; but the political leaders and those of the financial powers are more responsible because they can and must decide: they have the power, they have the money and they all know that the planet is in danger. The conception of the work: I chose a black hexagonal shape to symbolize the gulf that became the Earth, and in which the human race sinks illustrated by a man (Adam?) And a pregnant woman (Eve?). We went from homo sapiens to homo destructor, but we can also go back to the homo corrector if the human being acts efficiently and urgently. The man and the woman are naked, helpless, and innocent as at the moment of the creation of the world; they are completely overwhelmed by the situation they themselves have created. It is at once the human being who is guilty, responsible, but who also has the hope of being an actor of the future. The man and the woman show their despair and shout; an infinite cry that tears the nature as symbolized Edvard Munch. The woman, almost pregnant, shouts her desperation to give life in this context with a baby, head up, who refuses to be born and shouts before being born. The voluntarily powerful arm and the threatening pointing finger of the man makes reference to the finger of Michelangelo's creation; but this time it is about the creation of a start, an injunction to the human species, more particularly to the leaders of this world so that they act drastically, and hence without delay. Everyone is responsible; it is not a question of blaming one or the other, but of acting quickly, by taking collectively, each at his level, the necessary measures. In 2019, the entire world and leaders first know that the planet is in imminent danger. As Rithy Panh, Cambodian filmmaker and survivor of the Khmer camps, says, "The work of art is the fight against annihilation".
