This is an interactive piece exploring the concept of colour as seen, as well as colour as felt. Inscribed on a polished circle on a brushed stainless steel plate is a simple colour wheel within which is written, in Braille, the name of the three primary colours with some physical or emotional associations below the name. Non-sighted people may read in Braille the name of the colour and in reading its associations will be able to experience the colour emotionally. The colour wheel is polished so that when a sighted person faces the work to view or feel the Braille, they will further experience their own reflection and the colours and lights reflecting from the area around them. Each Braille dot reflects in miniature. Despite being ‘colourless’ itself, the work is full of colour; despite being inanimate, it is full of energy. If to live is to experience, or to experience is to live, then IN LIVING COLOR is an ideal expression of the concept.

I have drawn for as long as I can remember, my childhood endeavours becoming more proficient through my determined practice over the years. Throughout my adult life I have continued to draw, an activity that gives me great pleasure and satisfaction. I am an enthusiastic student of the techniques of the Old Masters and their widely varying portrayals of the human body, common to all, unique to each, and always challenging and inspiring to depict creatively. I am self-taught and paint in watercolour and, more recently, acrylic. I use a limited palette and only 3 or 4 top-quality brushes. I utilise the storehouse of impressions I have built up from my travels as a musician. My subconscious reworks these initial ideas in vivid, remembered dreams which become the inspirations for my work. www.studiobluesea.com www.studiobluesea.wordpress.com
