About The Artwork

“In..vento” is a mosaic composed of four ceramic tiles each measuring cm. 20x20, suspended from the black iron frame with fishing line. The engraves and relief designs made on fresh fireclay are abstract references to nature and the colours are inspired by the effects of raku ceramic, a technique that I have overcome, favouring a proceeding in search of lightness. The title “In… vento” has the double meaning of “Invento” with the Italian meaning of invent and “vento” which means wind, an essential element for the development of natural processes. A…mareggiate 20x20 Thinking of the sea in a 20cm by 20 cm area, to the waves, the splashes, its reflections, the colors and the scents. I act on the clay carving, curving, removing and adding white clay; I impress marks that bring me back to the shoreline. Movement. The perpetual motion of the sea. Sinuous lines on the sand. The wind. I create. Drying. The first firing. Finally, it is coming out of the kiln. The color phase begins. The white has a lot to say, it leaves room for imagination. I choose the color, light blue, blue and turquoise in the infinite shades. Purple is the sunset. Crystalline. Second firing. Again the surprise of the kiln. Assembly. Suspension. Lightness. The title “A..mareggiate” has a double meaning enclosed by the two Italian words :“amareggiata” and “mareggiata”. “Amareggiata” has the meaning of regret for something went wrong, as sorrow, and “mareggiata”, has the meaning of coastal storm, as stormy.

I live in Ravenna Italy, in my studio-home. I started my career as a ceramist in 1983 after attending the two-year INIASA ceramic course in my city, working as a decorator. I characterized my production with majolica inspired by the Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna and with the polychrome elaboration of a particular vine branch typical of the regional territory, marketing to private customers, shops, institutions by holding fairs and markets. Due to the need for large spaces, I moved my home and workshop to the countryside adjacent to the Po Delta Park for 15 years. Life in close contact with nature influenced the creation of landscape panels and bas-reliefs depicting the flora and fauna of the Delta , the Dunes of the sea and the abstract panels with carvings and reliefs. Curiosity about the use of materials other than ceramics led me to experiment with glass fusion, mosaic and papier-mâché. After my rural experience I lived and worked for several years in Dubai where I taught ceramic decoration at the Dubai International Art Center and at the Yadawey Ceramic Studio. I have exhibited at the Dubai Mall and for many years at the Alserkal Cultural Foundation, receiving prestigious commissions. Currently, driven by the search for symbolic and material lightness, I work with the experimental technique that I have called "Lightness Technique" with which I color the porcelain or liquid clays that I prepare myself, into recycled cardboard molds that I shape and assemble to create the conceived forms.
