Infinite Delight Sculpture

Works in this ongoing series are created by casting wax into metal frames. As in other works, these pieces capture an action, that of pouring wax into water, and freeze it in time. Here, too, the process of making the works has a substantial element of unpredictability and the final result is revealed only after the work is completed. The idea behind this work came from playing with candles as a child. Growing up during a war, the power was out frequently and candles were a regular necessity. I remember always playing and experimenting with melted wax. One of those experiments was testing what would happen if I dripped the wax from the candle into a cup of water sitting by my bed. After waiting for the wax to dry, I flipped the small disc over and was excited to the resulting texture of small dimples. It took over thirty years to come back to this idea, but the process is still as playful and the results exciting.
