Formally, the video work “iPan” shows a cast iron replica of a 13’ Apple iMac placed on a gas stove. Projected onto the non-functional “screen” of the iron laptop is a video displaying an episode of the popular online cooking show “BarbecueWeb.com”. As the video progresses, raw meat and sausages are grilled on the hot keyboard. At the end of the video, the griller places the cooked meat, complete with keyboard grill marks, on a dinner plate. One of the things that makes “iPan” ‘work’ is its combination of YouTube footage and video projection with an actual cast sculpture of a modern everyday item, a laptop, and real meat. This quirky mix of media and ‘pop’ presentation exemplifies the growing overlap of spaces we experience in our everyday lives. Apple products are creative communities’ preferred choice for just the sort of most innovative and cutting-edge digital content creation. These products and this creative community are responsible for an international conceptual and ideological change. A whole new lifestyle and even, entirely new industries are developing in and around these fertile grounds. The piece “iPan” plays with this new reality and juxtaposes it with a humorously romanticized reference to the wild American culture of outdoor grilling and heavy meat consumption.
