Sculpture: Acrylic, Fabric on Canvas, Glass, Wood.
Aimed at the honourable and distinguished collectors amongst yourselves, an object to remind you of your responsibility to look after our dear mother Earth. This is a painting-sculpture hybrid, designed to sit in front of you on your desk. The wooden box frame is an integral part of it, not to be removed or changed.
We are supposed to look after Earth, as custodians - guardians. The Maori word for custodian or guardian is Kaitiaki. A word beautiful in symmetry as well as in meaning. I made this painting-sculpture hybrid to express the importance of Kaitiaki related to the actual environmental issues of today. The abstract colour composition in acrylic on the outer canvas represent Earth. This canvas is ripped to express the wound inflicted on Earth by our pollution of the eco-system. The pollution is here represented by a nylon ribbon stuck into the open wound. This wound exposes the Earth’s fragile eco-system, represented by fabric placed behind glass.
This hybrid is signed on the front with Tor Ammo. On the back I have attached my left thumb print, my (official) signature, the date, the title Kaitiaki XL, and an anti forgery stamp.
This miniature painting-sculpture hybrid (11.5 x 11.5 cm incl. frame, 3.5 cm deep, 4.5 x 4.5 x 1.3 inch) is the tenth of a limited collection of in total eleven unique Kaitiaki XL hybrids, each with its own colours and wound shape.
