About The Artwork

Kintsugi, partially repaired kintsugi ceramic pot in handmade velvet box with certificate of authenticity. One of Seven Once, I found peace. I found a place of perfect crystalline stillness, a quiet place where I understood all that I was and all that I wished and all that could ever matter. Until I no longer did. This shattered me, this finding and then loss of contentment, it tore me apart, but then we are all broken, in part. We are all a collection of fractures and breakages, patches and repairs. Yet perhaps it is these very seams of distress, these fissures, that create the strength and beauty that we each become after such events, it seems to me that ‘the cracks are where the light gets in’. In a time where many political and social fracture lines seem to be appearing, the philosophy of Kintsugi, the repairing of broken pottery with gold, has perhaps become more than apt for this strange present in which we live. Breakage is not the end. Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history and cycle of an entity. Done well, it not only mends but also strengthens and improves the entity. Perhaps it brings hope knowing that from breakage, through repair, can come strength through beauty.

Bourdon has suffered from Art ever since he was a small child. He has pursued a cure for this malady ever since through many different types of media—yet unfortunately relying on heavier and heavier doses of Art each day just to get by. Despite this infliction (or perhaps because of it) Bourdon has travelled extensively seeking out others who have suffered the same fate, visiting their works in the great galleries and asylums of the world… seeking and hoping to find the answer, all the time learning from these maverick, ill, geniuses. Having suffered terribly for years with a compulsive urge to draw, he was lured to University where professionals taught him how to live with this condition more wholesomely. Through various treatments, seminars and instructions he gained a broad knowledge of his infliction, himself and an abundance of art techniques. Bourdon Brindille was later released from Falmouth University with a First Class Honours Degree in Illustration and has since been able to enjoy something of a normal life. Despite attempts to rein in his Art use, he has developed an insatiable love for sculpting over the years, using predominately wood, which is carved, turned and cut to nail down his imagination. His passion for sculpting and for Art has led to him becoming a sought-after Award Winning Artist who loves to create images and sculptures that are playful, absurd, otherworldly and awash with ideas drawn from the pains and pleasures of life. Bourdon's work can be most readily appreciated ‘in the flesh’ and for this reason he has shown his work countless times throughout his home nation of Wales, London and across Europe. It is ‘before one's very eyes’ where he draws the viewer to get lost in his fevered, fetid imagination… if only for a short while. Unfortunately, Bourdon Brindille has to live in it full-time. The search for a cure continues . . .
