Stoneware Ceramic Vessel, Matt White Glaze with a Green Glass Internal Base. This collection of sculpted work centres around coiled clay and press moulding techniques. Combining these ancient methods aids in the formation and development of a style that is unique to Annabel’s hand. Annabel says ‘Hand-building vessels creates a synergy between myself and the stoneware clay, allowing for an organic structural balance that can’t be found in uniformed ceramic work. I have the same approach to surface pattern design and glazing whereby a controlled fluidity is encouraged, forming a visual uniqueness to every piece of work.’

I create unique ceramic objects that question the standardisation of design and form. The development of ideas and process, define my artistic response. Drawing on the past for inspiration and working in ceramic stoneware, I produce work that has a distinctive and characteristic style. Development My style is influenced by my former role as a curator, where I specialised in researching Historic European Fine and Decorative Arts. My current ceramic collection references organic forms and naturalistic symbolism used during the Baroque and Rococo design period. Process This collection of sculpted work centres around coiled clay and press moulding techniques. Combining these ancient methods aids in the formation and development of a style that is unique to my hand. Hand-building vessels creates a synergy between myself and the stoneware clay, allowing for an organic structural balance that can’t be found in uniformed ceramic work. I have the same approach to surface pattern design and glazing whereby a controlled fluidity is encouraged, forming a visual uniqueness to every piece of work. I studied Footwear and Accessories Design at Cordwainers College of Art, London (1996-2000) and Visual Culture at Northumbria University (2004-2007). Between 2007-2014 I worked as a researcher and curator specialising in Historic Fine and Decorative Arts. I collaborated and worked on high profile exhibitions such as; Stephen Jones: From Georgiana to Boy George , The Bowes Museum (2012), In Fine Style: The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion, The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace (2013), Laura Ashley, Romantic Heroine, Fashion Museum Bath (2013). The knowledge and understanding gained as a researcher and curator had a profound influence on my current work as a ceramic artist. In 2014, I began to develop my sculptural ceramic work, using a traditional hand-built technique, which visually references and abstracts organic forms and motifs typically depicted in Historic Art and Architecture.
